Hape is an Amazonian medicine used by native tribes to clear energy within the entire body. It is composed of the ash of Amazonian tobacco, Mapacho, and mixed with the ash of other plants. There are many types of Hape, each with a different mixture of plants. All of the medicine I serve is sourced from Brazil and made with pure intentions of love, harmony and healing.

Hape is served with a sacred instrument called a Tepe. The one I work with is made of Palo Sangre, an Amazonian tree, crafted with intention and love in the rainforest of Brazil. We will begin by cleansing your field with copal and talk a bit about what you want the medicine to focus on. You will drink a full glass of water and thank the earth, the sun, the rain, the wind, the animals and the people who helped these plants to grow and crafted this incredible medicine. We will then begin to breathe together, uniting our fields harmoniously. The powdered medicine is held in the palm of my hand and scooped up with the tepe. You will take a deep breath to fill your lungs and block the back of your throat by constricting those muscles and I will gently insert it into one nostril and blow the medicine up into your nasal cavity. Both sides must be done for proper balance and cleansing.

Tobacco is a deeply cleansing medicine and everyone reacts differently. Purging energy can look like vomiting, crying, spitting, shaking, coughing, an urge to urinate or defacate. Any and all of these reactions are completely normal. As this medicine is being blown into the nasal cavity, the third eye, crown and throat areas may be more strongly affected that any other. There can be tension or burning felt within the cavities of the skull, and though most hape is not psychoactive, one may receive visions, simply because the pineal gland is being cleansed. At times, guidance can be heard and after the medicine has made its way through your system, a deep sense of tranquility and peace is felt and physical vision is more vibrant. I recommend people keep the medicine within their nose for at least a few minutes and just sit with the sensations, eyes closed in a meditative state. When you feel ready, you can either begin to slowly breathe a bit through your nose, which will carry the phlegm into your throat and mouth, at which point you may spit it out back to the soil with gratitude, or you may simply blow your nose into a tissue.

There are no known contraindications with hape, tobacco only mildly elevates blood pressure and heartbeat as it is a fire medicine. A glass of water will be waiting for you to consume after your ceremony and it’s recommended you bring a journal and something to write with so as to record any insights you received during our session. Lastly I will close and seal your auric field using a puro.
